This is one of the great historical vineyards in Portugal, having been founded in 1498, and acquired by Companhia das Quintas in 2006. Rumor had it that the founding family was affiliated with, or related to, Christopher Columbus. Located in the Estremadura, the coastal area north of Lisbon, there are approximately 50 hectares under cultivation. Both traditional (for example, touriga nacional) and international grapes (cabernet sauvignon etc.) are cultivated, and the wines are earning a justified reputation as some of Portugal's finest.
